Strengthening Spell Cover STRENGTHENING SPELL

This works well as a group, but can also be used as a solitary.
Take a purifying bath. Use your favorite incense.

Cast the circle and then think of all the Things That strengthen you.
Say them aloud if you can:

I become strong Through facing my fears.
I become strong Through my friends who support me.
I become strong through my family that loves me unconditionally.
I become strong through making mistakes.
I become strong through taking a stand.
I become strong through dreaming.

Add whatever you feel moved to add.

Chant and raise power. Sit quietly within your circle and reabsorb the power
that all these things continue to give you. Release the circle when you are
finished.

Here is a simple chant that I find strengthens me:

"We are an old people,
we are a new people,
we are the same people,
stronger than before.
I am a strong [wo]man,
I am a healer,
and my soul will never die."

Repeat until you feel the energy strengthen you.

Book: Magical Revival by Kenneth Grant

Kenneth Grant goes farther than almost anyone in describing real mystic and Theosophical truths from a left hand path perspective. The book, which is a left hand path take on the philosophy of aleister crowley and the OTO, lays out more in its first two chapters than many books, even somewhat secretive books published by small presses and not known to the general public, do--and this book was printed by a major press and generally available in the early seventies. Goes into many things that are only hinted at in people's thinking about the meaning of various segments of Crowley's thought, from what the Relationship of various entitites to the A .'. A.'. and to the Book of the Law is to what the OTO's conception of sex magic was in relation to Tantric Hinduism. More to the point, Grant integrates all of these systems together, so it's not so much OTO concepts being contrasted with Hindu concepts as common ground being found between the two and then a sort of dialogue being produced between them, both describing a common experience and goal. Grant is able to consistantly do this on a number of topics, which makes this book so valuable and interesting.

Book: Wicca And Magick Beginning Wicca What Is Wicca by Anonymous

Wicca is an unending path of light, magic, love, and constant learning. We revere nature and see the true divine beauty of the universe. It’s about recognizing that we all have the ability to take our fate into our own hands, and we have the right to choose how we use that power. There is no bible and no prophet. Our only rule is a simple and logical one: "An it harm none, do as ye will".

Wicca is an earth religion based on ancient (even prehistoric) paganism. Wicca itself is relatively new, a reconstruction loosely based on old religion and early witchcraft. Its roots are hard to trace because of persecution, which caused people and records to be hidden or destroyed.

Most Wiccans worship the Goddess and the God. They have thousands of names given to their many aspects by various cultures. 2 Each name given to the Goddess and God in old mythology represents a different facet of the Goddess and the God's personality. Today, we invoke them by the name that is most appropriate for the purpose.

An Approach To The Operation Of The Arbatel Of Magic Cover

Book: An Approach To The Operation Of The Arbatel Of Magic by Phil Legard

The "Arbatel of Magic" appeared at Basle, Switzerland in 1575 in Latin and is one of the lesser known works of the ‘grimoire’ tradition. Waite writes that it has the quality of true Transcendental literature, being free from ‘dangerous Instruction which makes for open Black Magic.’ While it may be going a little to far to praise it as having transcendental quality, it can be considered more aligned with ‘white magic’ (whatever that may be) than most other books of the grimoire tradition. It is unfortunate that only one part of the book has survived or was ever written, being called the Isagoge, or Fundamental Instructions. The work promised a further eight volumes, concerning themselves with "Microcosmical Magic", "Olympic Magic", "Hesiodiacal and Homerical Magic", "Sibylline Magic", "Pythagorical Magic", "The Magic of Appolonius", "Hermetical Magic" and "Prophetical Magic". It would seem that "Arbatel" is the name of an angel or spirit, although a preliminary search turns up no such angel as ‘Arbatel’ in the more popular works of occult lore. The Isagoge contains seven groups of seven aphorisms, most of these consist of and eclectic mixture of mainly Christian and Judaic lore, with influences from Pythagoras and other esoteric philosophers. Examples of the Information presented include spiritual hierarchies, the properties of certain numbers, prayers and various other spiritual secrets. We shall be mainly concerned with the third septenary, which discusses the so-called ‘Olympic Spirits’ and the method of calling upon them.

Maps And Correspondences

Posted by Mystery at 12:26 PM Labels: book of shadows, book of spells, free magic books, love spell, magic, magic books download, site witch, wicca love, wiccan book, wiccan magic, witchcraft
Maps And Correspondences Cover If consciousness is imagined as a space we can move around in, then it is a space of several dimensions. An indespensible tool for any magician is a method for describing this space and its dimensions, a method to specify the "the coordinates of consciousness", like giving a map reference. The magician uses such a descriptive method to say "this is where I want to get to", and you can imagine a ritual as a vehicle which transports him or her to the destination and back again.

A descriptive method of this type is one of the most obvious and characteristic features of a particular magical technique, because states of consciousness are usually described using a dense mesh of symbolism and metaphor, and if a magical tradition has been around for any length of time it becomes identified by the details of this symbolism. Given the tendency for maps to be confused with territory, there is a tendency for symbolism to take on a life of its own and become completely detached from authentic magical technique. People confuse magical symbolism with magic; its use as a coordinate system is lost, vast tomes of drivel are written, and every manner of absurdity follows.

I am a Kabbalist by training and use a map of consciousness called "The Tree of Life". This map has been coloured in using a thousand years of symbolism, and the result is called "the Correspondences", and it is a system which allows me to navigate around the dimensions of consciousness with some precision. There are many other maps, some well worn by history, some not, and my choice is a matter of personal preference. It works for me because of the kind of person I am, but it is only a map and I wouldn't pretend that there was anything intrinsically special about it.

Many magicians operate within a religious framework. The Christian Mass is a magical ritual par excellence, and there are several other magical rituals associated with Christianity. Some magicians work within a pantheon - Graeco-Roman, Egyptian, Scandinavian, Aztec or whatever. Some (e.g. Crowley) invent their own religion. A characteristic of all these systems is that they provide a complex mesh of symbol and metaphor, a map for the magician to work within. For any pantheon it is usually straightforward (with some bending, stretching and hitting with a hammer) to identify a personification for the following aspects of consciousness:

heaviness, old-age, stagnation, limitation, inertia
creativity, inspiration, vision, leadership
violence, force, destructiveness
harmony, integrity, balance, wholeness
love, hate, passion, sensual beauty, aesthetics, emotional power, nurture
reason, abstraction, communication, conceptualisation, logic
imagination, instinct, the unconscious
practicality, pragmatism, stolidity, materialism

And once we have gods and goddesses (or saints) to personify these qualities, a weave of metaphors and associations elaborates the picture; the Moon is instinct, fire is both destructive and energetic, death is a sythe, air and mercury are "the same", and so on. The meaning of a symbol is personal - white means "death" to some and "purity" to others. What matters is that the magician should have a clear map, and with it the ability to invoke different aspects of consciousness by using the symbolism of gods, goddesses, archangels, demons or whatever. It does not matter whether the magician believes in the literal reality of the territory or not, as long as he or she treats the map with respect and does not muddy the water by dabbling with too many different maps. There are two principal ways in which maps become muddled, and as the main theme of these notes is the precise use of limitation in conjuction with magical consciousness, I think it is worth mentioning what I see as potential pitfalls. The first pitfall is mixing systems; the second is working with other people.

There is a tendency nowadays to muddle different systems of correspondences together, to add Egyptian gods to a Kabbalistic ritual, to say that Tanith is really the same as Artemis, or that Cybele and Astarte and Demeter are "just" different names for the Mother Goddess, to find parallels between Thor and Mars, between Kali and Hecate, between the Virgin Mary and Isis, until, like different colours of paint mixed together, everything ends up in shades of muddy brown. This unifying force is everywhere as people find universal themes and try to make links between groups and systems.

It is (in my opinion) a bad idea to mix systems together in a spirit of ecumenical fervour. Correspondences are like intentions: the sharper and more clearly defined they are, the better they work. Despite a few similarities, the Virgin Mary is nothing like Isis, and Demeter has very little in common with Astarte. Syncretism usually takes place slowly over the centuries, so that for most people there is no distinction between the classical Greek and Roman pantheons and Mercury is a synonym for Hermes, but to do it in real-time in your own head is a recipe for muddle-headedness.

Symbols can be diffused when people work together in a group. It is a mistake to believe that "power" is raised in direct proportion to the number of people taking part in a ritual. Unless people have been trained together and have similar "maps", then the ritual will have a different effect on each person, and although more power may be raised, it will be unfocussed and will probably earth itself through unexpected channels. When people begin working together there will be a period of time when their work together will probably be less effective than any one of them working alone, but after a time their "maps" begin to converge and things start to improve dramatically. There is nothing magical about this - it is a phenomenon of teams of people in general. I don't like "spectator rituals" for this reason; you are either in it or your are out, and if you are out, you are out the door.

Does it matter what map, what system of correspendences a person uses? Is there a "best" set? This is an impossible question to answer. What can be said is that working within any magical framework incurs a cost. The more effective a magical system is at limiting, engaging and mobilising the creative power of consciousness, the more effective it is at ensnaring consciousness within its own assumptions and limitations. If a person works within a belief system where the ultimate nature of God is pure, unbounded love, joy and bliss, then that closes off other possibilities.

Without sitting in judgement of any set of beliefs, I would say that the best belief system and the best system of correspondences is one which allows consciousness to roam over the greatest range of possibilities, and permits it the free-will to choose its own limitations. And that is a belief in itself.

Fire Water Earth Air And Spirit Five Elements Of Magic And Ritual

Fire Water Earth Air And Spirit Five Elements Of Magic And Ritual Cover Elemental Correspondences

The five elements of fire, water, air, earth, and spirit are used by neopagans and occultists in magic and ritual to represent the forces of nature. They are not the same as the table of elements in science.

Below are the symbols and some attributes of each one taken from western magical tradition, which has influenced much of our current magical thought. Nature elementals and other correspondences such as neoshamanic totems are outside the scope of this article.

Fire

Warm and dry, active, incredibly energetic. Corresponding direction - South. It has the power to destroy and purify. It is seen as the beginning and end as it is considered the source of life and the destroyer of life.

Water

Cool and moist, passive, creative, transformative. Embodied esoterically as the primal waters of all creation. Corresponding direction - West. Represents the subconscious, receptivity, and regeneration.

Air

Warm and moist, active. Corresponding direction - East. Represents clear perception and intelligence. Associated with the first breath of life and speech.

Earth

Dry and cool, passive, fertile. Corresponding direction - North. Earth is born of the above three elements. Represents stability, groundedness, and the ability to manifest.

Spirit

Spirit is above but is the connecting point of the other four elements (shown opening picture of this page). It is the embodiment of the alchemical phrase "As Above, So Below." As we come to understand the four elements, we come closer to understanding divinity as their source.
Using Elements in Circle Casting

In witchcraft, circles are commonly cast calling the elements at each direction in order to have balanced energy and as part of enclosing the circle. Students of magick and esoteric orders such as the Golden Dawn work with the elements to balance those energies within themselves.

Elemental Exercise

A simple exercise to begin to align with the energies of each element is to draw the images above separately on paper and meditate on them. You can also visualize these symbols to bring more of one element into your life. For example, if you are feeling spacey or light-headed, you can concentrate on the symbol for earth to become more grounded.

Symbols are'nt necessary to evoke the feelings of each element. You may also create your own visuals or use none at all. They are simply tools to aid in connecting with the energies.

Most likely you will receive information from your own guidance about what the elements mean for you and your life. It is also perfectly normal to feel an affinity with one or more of these during different life experiences. This is invaluable information to record in your journal as you develop your own magical personality. While this work may seem basic, it is a powerful way to develop equilibrium in all aspects of your life.

From what I have learned about Spirituality and magic there is one thing to keep in mind, whatever you cast out WILL return to you in some way. Beware, if you are casting spells from this book make sure you are well trained and do not use hexes or curses ever. They are there if you need them but I feel that if you choose a protection or prosperity spell over a curse you will be all the wiser.....Beware, these are real if you do them right, you are responsible for what you cast.

Wicca Candle Magick

Posted by Mystery at 6:38 AM
Wicca Candle Magick Cover

Book: Wicca Candle Magick by Gerina Dunwich

This is a very interesting book, don't get me wrong, but it left me wondering so many things. This book is sloppy, and it makes me wonder if Gerina put her whole heart into it or just threw it together? Some paragraphs made me feel like she was in a hurry. I'm not joking, the introduction made me feel like she was anxious to get the book over with, she wrote the paragraphs like she was in a hurry. I wish she would have explained Candle Magick in this book, she dwells on possibly unessessary things and includes too many things that I don't think belong in this book. Her information on making candles isn't that bad, but there are other methods as well, some of which are easier, but she does give several options. Some of her oils are just gross, and I can't see a lot of Wiccans using them. Her information on herbs and healing isn't bad at all, I just wish she would have explained how to use herbs, how to use herbs with candle magick, and examples of rituals and spells. Her info on herbs is good, if you've had experience. Her information on gems and crystal are good too, it just has nothing to do with candle magick itself. Her information on gods and godesses is always good in all her books, but in this book it is too long and drawn out, I wouldn't be suprised if there are 40 pages just about gods and goddesses used in Wicca and the candle colors associated with them. This is good information and it can be used for good reference, I'm just not sure it's necessary and makes me wonder if it was put in there to fill up space. Do you see what I mean? Her Sabbat rituals are not really candle rituals, she has good ideas for rituals, but some of her ideas are complicated, and unusuable for many readers. Plus, many Wiccans do not use ceremonial swords and do not cast magick circles in the way she does. But, as for almost any ritual in my opinion, it can be modified to fit your own needs, it just be nice, if you could follow it word by word. She is knowledgeable about the Sabbats, and her rituals are enlightening and fun to read. Her chapter on Candle Magick itself is strange, and it would be nice if there was some candle spells in it. Most of the spells she presents on a wide variety of topics contains candles, but I only considered ONE SPELL to actually be candle magick, and that was a love spells targeting individuals, something most Wiccans wouldn't do anyways. I'm not saying this is children's literature at all, but the way Gerina Dunwich writes in some places in this book, makes you feel like she is speaking to you either like a child or she doesn't care what you do kind of attitude. Her writing style in some places of this book might make some readers question her intelligence. That is rude, I know, but I am not joking. She does give a lot of spells, like some reviewers have said, some are very interesting, and some cover topics other authors avoid or may know nothing about, but some of her spells are bizarre, makes you wonder where she got them, some of her spells are gross, with disgusting ingredients, and some of her spells are almost impossible to perform for various reasons. She includes a chapter on Voudoun Candle Magick, which would have been nice if it included information about Voudoun Candle Magick, she is knowledgeable about Voodoo, and she does a good job explaining it and explaining Voodoo gods and goddesses and even how to make Voudoun candles, there is just very little information anyone can apply, but she does present Voudoun in an easy to understand, interesting, explainative manner of being. She includes a Voodoo ritual too, which I'm not sure is necessary, what was this book about again. She speaks about breaking Hoodoo (not Voodoo) curses, yet doesn't explain the background behind Hoodoo practice. Finally, as always, I liked her chapter on Candle Omens and Superstitions, and she even includes a listing of Occult and Metaphysical shops most of which I hope at least sell Candles accross the country. This book is good, I recently bought three more books and this one was the best, but this book is sort of thrown together, and makes me wonder more about what Gerina Dunwich was thinking when she wrote this book. For better information on Candle Magick, try Ray Buckland's Practical Candleburning Rituals: Spells and Rituals for every purpose.

Book: African Dolls For Play And For Magic by Esther Dagan

African Dolls across the continent are created for young girls to play with and as a charm to insure fertility in women. Their shape and costume vary according to region and custom. Frequently dolls are handed down from mother to daughter. Western dolls are popular in Africa and are often dressed with traditional garb.

When the concept of "doll" is considered in the context of African culture, they are usually not children's playthings, but rather objects that are laden with ritual and religious associations within the community. African dolls are used to teach, and entertain, they are Supernatural intermediaries, and they are manipulated for ritual purposes. Each of these dolls are unique because they are hand made and are traditionally handed down through generations.

Book: Weaving Magic Webs Internet Identities And Teen Wiccan Subcultures by Julia Davies

Weaving Magic Webs: Internet Identities and Teen Wiccan subcultures. A consideration of one particular on line community and their web based interactions Dr. Julia Davies.

This paper outlines ongoing research looking at the use made of the Internet by many teenaged girls, who form networks and allegiances for discussion of a whole range of issues. In an examination of data taken from Wiccan web sites, message boards and diaries, it considers the role such sub-cultural activity on the Internet plays in the lives of participating girls. It is further argued that despite fears that activities involving new technologies are antisocial (Bauman, 2003) and can be isolating and dangerous, the Internet enriches many users’ lives and provides them with opportunities to extend their social experience both on and off line in positive ways.

The interface between Wiccan ideas, the use of the Internet and teenaged girls’ burgeoning interest in these is a relationship which attracts my attention; ways in which participating girls communicate with each other and present themselves, how they create a carefully defined sense of community are considered within a cultural studies framework. It is noted how these teenagers learn from each other and follow prescribed codes in order to remain group members. The public nature of the sometimes intimate exchanges exemplifies a common, ambiguous feature of interaction I have observed on the Internet and is also discussed along with what Wiccan ideas offer to this group of people.

The Magical And Ritual Use Of Herbs Cover

Book: The Magical And Ritual Use Of Herbs by Richard Alan Miller

One in the series of books by Richard Alan Miller. (The others being "Magical and Ritual use of Perfumes" with Iona Miller, and "magical and Ritual Use of Aphrodisiacs") This book is a typical example of the attention to detail, clarity of writing, and concise nature that I have come to expect from the author.

Covering some of the more Pharmocologically active herbs, the coverage is complete enough for my friends in the medical feilds, without losing readers with less chemistry knowledge (like me). There are diagrams of the active chemical compounds, when known, and lots of details about growth and habitat, but the directions and hazards of use are clear enough for a novice.

While not covering the more common herbs, such as Rosemary, or sage, this book is a valued part of my herbal library. I sincerely hope that the author writes a more wide ranging book on herbs in the future! Definately worth every penny.

Magical and Ritual Use Of Herbs investigates the habitat, cultivation, historical use, chemical structure and benefits of nineteen psycho-active herbs. These plants are discussed by chapter in the following categories: Stimulants (including Damiana, Passionflower and Guarana), Depressants (including Lobelia, Skullcap and Valerian), Narcotics (Wild Lettuce and Wormwood), Hallucinogens (including Kava Kava, Yohimbe, Amanita Muscaria, Morning Glory Seed and Psilocybe Mushroom). Their preparation, ritual use, primary effects and potential hazards are described in detail.

Some of the benefits that may be derived from the wise use of these plants include stress relief (Kava Kava and Valerian Root), increased energy (Guarana), restful sleep and cleansing (Wormwood) and spiritual Development (Fly Agaric, Psilocybe). The author writes With Great authority, effortlessly blending scientific and esoteric knowledge. I enjoyed his no-nonsense factual approach. The book includes a Quick Reference Chart, a Bibliography and a Chemistry, Botanics/Organic and General Index, making it a valuable reference work in addition to a fascinating read.

Magical and Ritual Use Of Herbs is very informative, clearly written and well organized. One must have knowledge of wild crafting (plant gathering) and a pretty good knowledge of chemistry to take full advantage of what it has offer. It provides excellent and concise Information on herbal effect and very clear warnings.

Earth Air Fire And Water More Techniques Of Natural Magic

Earth Air Fire And Water More Techniques Of Natural Magic Cover

Book: Earth Air Fire And Water More Techniques Of Natural Magic by Scott Cunningham

Scott Cunningham was deluged with letters. Most people wanted more "advanced" material. Of course, this was basically impossible. The Natural Magic Scott wrote about was simple and direct. Scott couldn't write a more advanced version, but he could write more. And that's exactly what he did in Earth, Air, Fire & Water. Even though the first book still sells well (150,000 people use it), we didn't want people to have to buy it in order to understand this book. Therefore, Scott made Earth, Air, Fire & Water complete in itself. That means with this book you will learn all of the basics of magic, including what you need to know to make the magic really work for you. Then you'll learn the importance of the Magical Elements and rituals and techniques you can do that are based on this information. This is followed by Information on nine different types of natural magic that you can do for any purpose. But my favorite part of the book is the last section. Here you will learn how to combine the information on the elements with the information on the basics of magic to create your own rituals for any purpose you can imagine! He gives over forty examples so you can see just how easy it is to design a ritual. Scott also covers how to determine the best time to perform the ritual; how to combine the words of power or rhyme for the spell; gives a list of magical symbols; a selection of mail-order suppliers so you can get all of your magical needs; a glossary of the specialized words used in the book; and an annotated bibliography so you can know what other books you can get to further your knowledge. This is an outstanding book, and one you should have.
