Spell Of The Arrow

Posted by Mystery at 5:29 PM
Spell Of The Arrow Cover
The Spell of the Arrow

This is a very old spell, which incorporates symbols which are placed along the
shaft of an arrow. Traditionally this was performed on the shore of a lake, or
other calm body of water (such as a Bay). It was necessary to be able to see the
"path of the Moon" in the water. This "path" is the reflection of the moon,
stretched along the surface of the water.

To perform this spell, you must take a new arrow and place the symbols of your
wish/desire along its shaft. Meaningful words or phrases may also be added. When
the Moon is full, go to the shore, and face the water. Fix the arrow into your
bow and gaze out upon the path of light (which leads to the Moon). Next, speak
the words of enchantment, then release the arrow:

"Where path of Light, to Moon I see,
the powers of the Queen shall be !
Shaft of wood, as shaft of light,
earth to moon, does now give flight !"

The arrow can either be shot out into the path on the water, or upward towards
the Moon. The arrow was sacred to Diana, and was considered to carry special
powers and blessings, in this type of spell. This is a folkmagic level spell,
and speaks of the early Pagan simplicity concerning magic (more of the Shaman
roots). My mother used to say that a ceremonial magician must prepare for magic,
and wait upon the proper time and setting. But a witch can pick up a twig,
anywhere, anytime, and work a spell of magic.

I thought that I would add a couple more basic sea spells, since I still have
some room on this post.

1. To gain favor with the Goddess, form your name with white petals upon the
shore, so that the tide will carry them out. This is a very old part of the
Janarric Initiation ceremony, which ends with the new Initiate performing this,
so that he/she is "introduced" to the God & Goddess, through the naming spell.

2. To break an "evil" spell (or cure an affliction) form 3 connecting towers out
of wet sand, near the shore of the sea. Take 3 dark shells (or spotted shells)
and place a symbol of the thing you wish removed, on each. Use a substance which
will wash away in the water. Place one of the shells upon the top of each tower.
Then simply sit, and focus on the towers as the waves come and break them down.
In your mind, see the power of the sea destroying the thing which you desire to
remove.

Mirror Protection Spell For The Home Cover A Mirror Spell Of protection For The Home

Compose an altar: place a censer in the center before an image of the Goddess.
Have a twelve-inch (or so) round mirror there as well. Ring the altar with nine
white candles. Burn a protective incense (such as sandalwood, frankincense,
copal or rosemary) in the censer. Beginning with the candle most directly before
the Goddess image, say these or similar words:

Lunar light protect me!

Repeat as you light each candle until all are glowing.
Now, holding the mirror, invoke the Goddess in Her lunar aspect with these or
similar words:

Great Goddess of the Lunar Light
and Mistress of the Seas;
Great Goddess of the Mystic Night
and of the Mysteries;
Within this place of candles bright
and with Your mirror nigh;
Protect me with Your awesome might
while ill vibrations fly!

Standing before the altar, hold the mirror facing the candles so that it
reflects their flames. Keeping the mirror toward the candles, move slowly,
clockwise, around the altar, watching the reflected firelight bouncing off your
surroundings.

Gradually increase your speed, mentally invoking the Goddess to protect you.
Move faster and faster; watch the light shattering the air, cleansing it,
burning away all negativity and all lines along which the ill energies have
traveled into your home.

Charge your home with the protective light of the Goddess. Race around the
candles until you've felt the atmosphere change, until you feel that your home
has been cleansed and guarded by the Great Goddess.

When finished, stand once again before the image. Thank the Goddess in any words
you wish. Pinch out the candles one by one, bind them Together With white cord
and store them in a safe place until (and if) you need to use them again for
this same purpose.

Consecration Ritual

Posted by Mystery at 8:32 PM
Consecration Ritual Cover

Tools Needed:

3 candles
Gold or black for the God
Silver or white for the Goddess
One red candle for the element of Fire
Incense, any type will do. Nothing over bearing.
The object that you wish to consecration, sanctify, and purify.
Water and Salt
Oil for anointing the object

First ground and center yourself. Begin to breathe deeply and slowly, removing yourself from the mundane world. Close your eyes and allow the magick of the Lord and Lady to surround you with Love and Light.

Repeat 3 times: In Perfect Love and Perfect Trust.

When you feel that your consciousness is on the highest spiritual level, open your eyes and light the two candles signifying the presence of the Lord and Lady.

Then light an incense and red candle to assist in the consecration. Take a pinch of salt and mix it with the water repeating:

I exorcise O ye elements of salt and water, removing all negative and disharmonious energies. I now bless thee in the name of the God and Goddess to assist me in this purification.

Now, take the object in one hand. Dip your finger in the mixture of salt and water, then place a few drops of this mixture on the object repeating:

I now purify this "NAME of OBJECT" in the name of the God and Goddess casting out any negative or disharmonious energies sending them into the ethers. I purify thee clean and sacred!

Now, move the object first over the Fire candle, then the burning incense, repeating:

I now sanctify this "NAME of OBJECT" in the name of the God and Goddess casting out any negative or disharmonious energies sending them into the ethers.

Lastly, anoint the object with the oil, repeating:

I consecrate this "NAME of OBJECT" in the name of the God and Goddess to be used only as a magickal tool. Let this object forever and a day, give Love and Light to my path.

Once again close your eyes and take a deep breath allowing the spiritual world to begin to leave. Thank the Lord and Lady for their presence in your life. Open your eyes and return to the mundane world. It is your choice to leave or extinguish the candle's flame and the burning incense. But never, never blow them out, use a candle snuffer or simply pinch the flame out! Always show love and respect!

Circle Purification No Incense For Those With Allergies

Posted by Mystery at 12:16 PM
Circle Purification No Incense For Those With Allergies Cover
A Circle Purification that doesn't use Incense: for asthmatics, those with allergies, and those with other pulmonary disorders by Matrika.

This ritual was inspired when someone in our circle back in Central Massachusetts started dating a young woman who was a great herbalist, knowledgeable about crystal healing, a competent tarot-reader and a beginning astrologer. She had read "Spiral Dance" by Starhawk on the Craft of the Wise (Wicca) and wore a pentagram around her neck, but couldn't try circle work because she was allergic to smoke and had a serious asthma problem.

So, here's the rite. You prepare your altar as usual, with the exception of the incense and incense burner. 5 non-electric pot-pouri burners filled with water and an appropriately scented pot-pouri should be on or near the altar with 5 candles. Be sure that you use the correct type of candles for your pot-pouri burners, as other types can destroy the burners. Put these on the altar, which should be at the center of the circle and facing North or East according to your custom. If they do not fit without obstructing the work, place them in a semi-circle at the foot of the altar. Have matches there to light the candles under them at the proper time.

The rite

(Leader 1 should be a male, if possible. Leader 2 should be a female, if possible.)

Leader 1 - blessing the water and herbal mixture in each pot-pouri burner with the wand. A long-stem rose with the thorns removed can be used for a wand if you do not yet have one. Of course, this must be replaced each time you do a ritual

"By Fire and By Air
By Water and by Earth
by the Lady and the Lord
I conjure thee to purify our circle this night"

all - " So mote it be"

He takes one of the burners and the matches to the North where he lights it. Leader 2 accompanies him with her wand, after he lights it she raises her wand and says

"By fire and air
By water and by earth
Let us purify the
Northern Quarter of our circle"

There is a pause during which everyone visualizes (vividly imagining in every detail from a relaxed, meditative state) an arc of rainbow light forming that quarter of the circle then, when she lowers the wand, everyone responds.

all - "So Mote It Be"

Leader 1 returns to the central altar and gets the next burner, placing it in the East and lighting it. Leader 2 continues in the same way as above. This procedure is then repeated in the South and then in the West. Each time the invocation is changed to reflect the direction they are in. Each time the group visualizes the rainbow arc of light. And after each direction, Leader 1 returns to the center to get the burner for the next direction ready. By constantly returning to the center each time, the emphasis is placed there. After the Western quarter is lit, Leader 1 places the final burner on the altar, between the candles, where the incense burner would be if there was one and lights it. Leader 2 stands before the altar, raises her wand and says

"By Fire and by air
By water and by earth
Let us purify the sacred center of our circle
where Heaven and Earth Unite
and Where the Lord and Lady are joined in love."

While her wand is raised, everyone visualizes the rainbow light from the outer circles flooding in to the center and filling the circle with harmonious vibrations and energies. After a few moments, she lowers her wand and everyone responds.

all- "SO mote it be"

The circle casting is continued as usual with the invocations of the elements at the 4 corners, according to your tradition. Then the actual circle-casting is done as usual. After this do whatever rite and/or magick you would usually do and close in the usual manner. Be sure to snuff the candles and not to blow them out. Use a silver teaspoon to do this, if you don't have a snuffer. This ceremony ONLY replaces the part of the rite where you sprinkle with salt-water and then cense the circle to purify it in PREPARATION for the actual circle casting. It is NOT the full casting of the circle. (Some traditions purify with all 4 elements separately, sprinkling salt on the floor for earth, water on the floor for itself, censing the circle for air, and carrying a candle around
for fire. Either way this rite replaces the elemental purification, as the burners embody all 4 elements - the water for itself, the candle for fire, the herbs for earth, and the scent the steam gives off for air.)

OF course the pot-pouri burners used for this should only be used in your psychic work and should have been consecrated or smudged (by someone who can deal with the smoke) in preparation for this ritual.

To prepare appropriate pot-pouri scents for the purpose of your rites, use the directions for making the various home-made herbal incenses traditional in Witchcraft and in Magick; however, don't grind them with a mortar and pestle as you would in making incense. If you do not know the recipes for these, any of the Scott Cuningham books on making incenses would provide them for you. They are available from Llewelyn Publishing, box 64383 St. Paul Minnesota. (They will send you a free catalogue on request)

Despite the initial cost involved in obtaining the 5 burners, it is highly suggested you do it that way for two reasons:

1. In anything but a very small and enclosed space, you will not get enough scent to represent the air element sufficiently for magickal and ritual working.
2. To represent all 4 elements in EACH of the quarters and in the center of the circle is very important in establishing the traditional boundaries between the worlds the ordinary and non-ordinary or shamanic realities) that is the purpose of casting the circle and creating sacred space.

ALSO IF YOU TRY TO CARRY A POT-POURI BURNER THAT IS LIT AND HOT ENOUGH TO BE GIVING OFF THE SCENTED STEAM AROUND THE PERIMETER OF THE CIRCLE, YOU WILL CERTAINLY BURN YOUR FINGERS BADLY. (It is not appropriate to bring a pot holder into circle to carry it either! PLEASE!)

I hope this is helpful to those who have breathing problems and wish to perform magick.

Book: Magic In Slavia Orthodoxa The Written Tradition by Robert Mathiesen

This is an extract from: Byzantine Magic edited by Henry Maguire © 1995 Dumbarton Oaks Trustees for Harvard University Washington, D.C. Printed in the United States of America published by Dumbarton Oaks Research Library and Collection Washington, D.C.

Ethnographers and folklorists interested in the Orthodox Slays have long been aware of the rich oral traditions of magic in that part of the world, and have been collecting and studying texts of magical foildore for well over a century.
Particularly valuable are the extensive collections of East Slavic folk incantations published long ago by L. Majkov and by N. Vinogradov, but South Slavic materials are also available in quantity.

Philologists and historians, in sharp contrast, have paid little systematic attention to the corresponding written traditions of magic and the Occult Sciences among the medieval Orthodox Slays. Some Magical Texts havebeenpublished,
and others studied, but always only in passing, by scholars who were pursuing other interests, such as describing manuscripts or editing texts for the historical study of literature, language, the Bible, liturgy, church history, the
sciences—in short, of anything and everything except magic in its own right. This neglect of magic as a subject of scholarship is only partly the consequence of a kind of rationalistic or scientific distaste for magic itself, or of
discomfort in the presence of magicians who took their magic seriously. It is also due to the intractability of the magical texts themselves.

Magic And Wyrd

Posted by Mystery at 3:19 PM
Magic And Wyrd Cover

Book: Magic And Wyrd by Anonymous

Wyrd is the underlying fabric in the Northern/Germanic cosmology. The laws of Wyrd supercede the will of the Gods, of men and all creatures. Wyrd provides the basic structure for the Nine Worlds, and manifests itself in Yggdrasil and the Well of Urdr.

One can compare Wyrd to a song, there are many differnt ways to sing it but the basic tune remains the same. Wyrd is also frequently seen as weaving, different threads coming together on a framework to make a pattern.

Magic is one of the ways we interact with Wyrd. "Knowing" magic (in Manny Olds' words) or "predictive" magic (Groa's) is about becoming aware of the patterns in Wyrd and the disposal of individual strands in the tapestry. Spae-work and Rune-work are two of the techniques which can be used for this.

Civility And The Decline Of Magic

Posted by Mystery at 9:09 PM
Civility And The Decline Of Magic Cover

Book: Civility And The Decline Of Magic by Keith Thomas

One of the most puzzling aspects of the emergence of a new kind of world in the last few centuries in the West is the development of what we now call 'science'. The shift from a magical and religious dominated cosmology to a mechanistic and secular one, though far from complete and far from confined to the period roughly between 1550 and 1850, is in general undisputable. Until that time it had not happened in other civilizations such as China, Japan or the Islamic world, which had much earlier reached a higher level of craft knowledge than anything then current in Europe. So why did it happen where it did, when it did, and why did it happen at all? A number of historians, for example Thomas Kuhn and Michel Foucault, have drawn attention to the 'paradigmatic' or 'epistemic' shift manifested in the work of Galileo, Descartes and others. Yet while providing examples of the shift, neither has been able to put forward any plausible explanation of why the shift occurred. Indeed they both specifically state that they leave it to others to explain why. More recently we have been given an excellent, revised, picture of the earlier magic cosmology and its continuity with the later 'scientific' one by Stuart Clark. Yet once again, the author explicitly states that he is not attempting to provide any explanation of why the cosmologies changed over time. Some of the most stimulating suggestions concerning the reasons for the change have, in fact, come from anthropologists, who draw attention to the importance of literacy, the 'trade-travel' complex, Protestantism, the clash of cultures and other factors in the movement to the 'Open society' of modern science and technology.

Magic And Warfare Appearance And Reality In Contemporary African Conflict And Beyond Cover

Book: Magic And Warfare Appearance And Reality In Contemporary African Conflict And Beyond by Nathalie Wlodarczyk

This study explores the roles played by magic in contemporary African warfare, specifically through the case of Sierra Leone, to assess its impact on behaviour in conflict. In the last two decades, rituals designed to imbue people with supernatural power and make them immune to enemy fire have been seen on post-Cold War battlefields across Africa. Wlodarczyk argues that the use of magic in warfare can be understood, not as an illustration of how Africa’s reality is qualitatively different from the West’s, but as appropriate and logical. Here, a conceptual framework is suggested for analysing culturally alien practices more broadly, to inform approaches to civilian and military intervention not only in Africa but in conflict theatres around the world.

Wlodarczyk has built on the by-now considerable body of work on the importance of belief systems in African politics to offer a systematic analysis of the role of ‘magic’ in the Sierra Leone conflict. Making good use of the extensive evidence gathered by the trials on war crimes and her own field research, she provides a detailed account of the origins, organization and behaviour of the Kamajor militias that formed the core of the so-called Civil Defence Forces, which fought the rebel Revolutionary United Front. This book is a perceptive analysis of the nature of violence in contemporary Africa, which has relevance well beyond the continent. And it reinforces the argument that it is impossible plausibly to interpret political events in settings different from ours without an understanding of the cultural context within which they take place.”—Patrick Chabal, International Affairs

"Researchers who specialize in military studies are a pretty hard-headed bunch, unlikely to spend much time thinking about the worlds of spirits. If they read this book, as they should, they may start to do otherwise. Wlodarczyck’s achievement is to show the relevance of spiritual matters for military and political affairs in many parts of the world, concentrating on Sierra Leone. I hope this book will alert many people to an aspect of warfare that is likely to grow in importance."--Stephen Ellis, Desmond Tutu Professor in the Faculty of Social Sciences, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam
“Nathalie Wlodarczyk has done a stunning job bringing the immensely complicated, sensitive and intriguing subject of magic to the academic field. From a sound theoretical base, this book brings empirical research and meticulous insight into Sierra Leone’s war and its Kamajor fighters. Magic and Warfare combines a fascinating intellectual adventure with an engaging clarity that steers the reader to a greater understanding not only of the Kamajors and the war, but of the nature of belief and its relationship with action.

Learning Magic In The Sagas

Learning Magic In The Sagas Cover

Book: Learning Magic In The Sagas by Stephen Mitchell

The image of magic spells being taught by more seasoned practitioners to others eager to learn them comports well with what can be deduced about the actual practice of witchcraft and magic in medieval Scandinavia. For example, at the conclusion of that most remarkable document on love magic, jealousy and sexual intrigue from ca. 1325, De quadam lapsa in haeresin Ragnhilda Tregagaas, Ragnhildr tregagas of Bergen claims that the incantation and performative magic she uses against her erstwhile lover are ones she learned in her youth from Solli Sukk. In a similar case from Sweden in 1471, a witch in Arboga referred to in the surviving records as galna kadhrin 'Crazy Katherine' instructs Birgitta Andirssadotthir on how to prevent her lover from pursuing another woman.Another late 15th-century Swedish case likewise describeshow Margit halffstop says that she learned from another woman, Anna finszka, the spell by which she could bewitch a man from a distance.3 The Norwegian laws, especially Borgarflings kristinrettr hinn eldri and Eidsivaflings kristinrettr, express deep concern that people should not consult with the Sami: En ef madr faer til finna is a phrase which occurs often, and would appear to mean, as Fritzner writes about it in its nominal form, finnfor, "Reise til Finnerne for at soge Hjaelp af deres Trolddomskunst." All of the terms in this complex (e.g., finnvitka 'to Finn-witch, i.e., to bewitch like a Finn [or Sami]'), terms which seem only to appear in Norwegian and Icelandic sources, turn on the presumed greater skill, magic or learning of the Sami, and the practice of their sharing this learning or its outcome with others. This is precisely the sort of scene presented vividly in Vatnsdaela saga, when Ingimundr, Grimr and their men inquire of a visiting Sami witch ("Finna ein fj?lkunnig") about their futures.6 In addition to such testimony targetting the "lower" practices of magic, church statutes (e.g., the Arboga statute of 1412) and other ecclesiastical writing (e.g., the late 13th-century Fornsvenska legendariet) often cite the existence of grimoires (fj?lkyngisbaekr, galdrabaekr) and other learning aids associated with "high" magic.7 Nordic books of this sort are in fact known, albeit only from the post-medieval period,8 and are frequently mentioned in legends and other folklore texts (e.g., Raudskinna),9 suggesting wide-spread familiarity with the idea. A fully developed narrative about such a magic book is found in the 14thcentury story of the Skalholt bishop Jon Halldorsson.10 That the idea of learned clerics dabbling in the magical arts ran deep in the Middle Ages is also to be seen in the theme of "Escape from the Black School" (ML 3000), found in connection with Saemundr the Wise already in Jons saga helga.

Money Prosperity Spell Cover MONEY/PROSPERITY SPELL

The Tools Needed

A green cloth as big as your hand.
A white string.
One crystal. (suggested: quartz, malachite, bloodstone, or turquoise)

Herbs: Mustard seed, dill, clove, fennel, sage, cinnamon, ivy, orange, apple
seed, patchouli. (Use at least 4 of the suggested herbs.)

A coin, or a bill. (suggested a fifty cent piece, gold coin or a dollar bill.)

One green candle.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As always you can call upon "god" as you choose to recognize him/her/them. I
suggest for this spell that gods, and/or goddesses of fertility are called in
(Pan, Hestia, Isis, Venus, Herne).

Upon the candle carve a dollar symbol, your initials, your astrological symbol,
and a pentagram. If possible anoint your candle with essential oil (of any of
the herbs listed above). Lay your herbs out onto a piece of tin foil, or wax
paper. Gently roll you candle in the herbs. Directly place it in the candle
holder. Light the candle, and as the flame takes shape envision a beauteous
blooming flower in it's place.

Gather the remaining herbs in to a mortar or bowl. Mix or grind these herbs,
while thoughts of fertility, growing plants, flowing money, and positive change
occurring in your life. Place the herbs in the green cloth, and tie with the
white string. At this time address the Gods you have called in and explain to
them your need for money, and or fertility. Hold the Sachet and crystal in your
right hand. Then envision a green sphere of light swirling around you in a
clockwise motion. Allow the vision to become vividly clear. When you are ready,
close the circle.

May the Gods of Growth and prosperity smile upon you!!

Out Of The Shadows An Exploration Of Dark Paganism And Magick

Posted by Mystery at 4:59 PM
Out Of The Shadows An Exploration Of Dark Paganism And Magick Cover

Book: Out Of The Shadows An Exploration Of Dark Paganism And Magick by John Coughlin

So often darkness is associated with evil. Since the term evil has no place in a nature-based religion, we Pagans are forced to look beyond such stereotypes.

But what then is "darkness"? Why are so many of us drawn to themes associated with darkness such as death, mystery, wisdom, magic, and the night? These themes and symbols are empowering to many of us because they tap into the deepest reaches of our unconscious.

The goal of this book, which is a culmination of over 16 years of study and practice, is to not only share with you the author's views on Dark Paganism and spirituality, but to encourage you - if not challenge you - to personalize your own belief system.

While the first part explores the aspects and spirituality of darkness, the second part of this book discusses the nature and practice of magic by exploring the underlying principles at work.

In Out of The Shadows, author John J. Coughlin trys to rebuild the balance 'Light Paganism' has created. He gives an easy and understandable description of what the Darkness and 'Dark Paganism' actually are. Though the focus of this book is 'Dark Paganism', the author in no way tries to deny or degrade Light Paganism. In fact, Coughlin actually describes it's benefits and necessities in modern paganism.

In his explanation of the Darkness, Coughlin gives information on "dark siders" including the Gothic and Vampiric Sub-Culture. He gives a clear and understandable explanation of "The Shadow" in sychological terms, as well as symbols, images, and archetypes associated with darkness. I found the section on dark deities to be especially interesting, where Coughlin offers information on specific deities from various pantheons including Celtic,Egyptian, Greek, and Hindu.

Part Two is an explanation of the nature and structure of magick. This section explains how and why magick works as well as it's limitations and psychological factors. Coughlin takes you through each step of the spellcasting process by describing what and how to conduct ritual. This section also contains information on psychic abilities, chaos magick, and sex magick.

Out of The Shadows is really two books in one. It is and exploration of Dark Paganism, but it is also a guide to magick. Because so many books are focused on Light Paganism, this text is truly ground breaking. This book does an excellent job of providing the seeker with the proper tools to explore yourself. It's goal is to suggest, if not test, you to personalize your belief system. You will learn the truth about the Darkness and Dark Paganism. It was an excellent read and I'd highly recommend it to all Pagans.

Panchanga Tantra The Magic Of The Indian Calendar System

Posted by Mystery at 8:46 PM
Panchanga Tantra The Magic Of The Indian Calendar System Cover

Book: Panchanga Tantra The Magic Of The Indian Calendar System by Regulagedda Akshay

The fable of Apara Ganita and the Mystical Garden of Enchanted Numbers is obviously fictional. The inspiration is Leelavati Ganitam, a chapter in the ancient mathematical treatise, the Siddhanta Siromani, written by Bhaskaracharya in 1150CE. The Leelavati Ganitam is fascinating not only for its treatment of indeterminate analysis and a method to solve Pell’s Equation, but also, as a Canadian university’s website on mathematical history puts it, for its poetic conversation between the narrator and a narratee named Leelavati1. The similarity between this poetic construct and the conversation between Apara Ganita and the dwara palika is probably noticeable. Frame stories are not common for scientific research papers, but they certainly have a historical precedent.

My Quest For The Magic Divine

My Quest For The Magic Divine Cover Where does one begin the quest for the Ultimate? More importantly, when can one finally end it in fulfillment? I have struggled with these questions for all my relatively short life. I have always felt as though some transcendent force were tapping me on the shoulder, demanding my attention. Yet whenever I looked over my shoulder nothing tangible was there to greet me. What could I do, what path could I follow, that would lead me to the mysterious entity who so earnestly desired an audience with me?

I was born and raised in something of a Bible-Belt area. Churches of one type or another dominated the countryside. The different world religions, as far as I could discern, were Baptist, Methodist, Lutheran, and Catholic. We even had Mennonite and Amish in the general area. It was a veritable smorgasbord of Christian denominations and none of them ever satisfied me. I simply could not feel a connection to the Divine under their auspices. Spending my Sunday morning sitting in a pew, singing hymns to some executed carpenter from another time and place was not my idea of worship. Christ may have been an exceptional man in his day, but to me he was as dead as Julius Caesar.

Thus it was I ruled out Christianity as the vehicle that could deliver me to the Divine. From there it was a logical step to further exclude Judaism and Islam; they both pledged fealty to the same God as the Christians, a God whom I always considered too distant and aloof to worship. With the Middle East religions offering no inspiration, I studied the ancient wisdoms of the Far East. I found them much more invigorating and broad minded than Monotheism, but I still could not internalize their beliefs as my own. Buddhism tried teaching me that my own sense of uniqueness was an illusion, something I simply could not accept. Hinduism was colorful but not very focused, offering the believer far too many deities to choose as a patron. Taoism and Confucianism were on the whole fine philosophies, but they offered no insight on the Divine force that I still felt earnestly tapping me on the shoulder.

I was a year out of college and still left without a spiritual clue. It was then, however, that the Neopagan craze began penetrating into even my remote neck of the woods. I would walk into any bookstore and the New Age section was constantly expanding. I would surf the web for Information on religion and eventually bump into a Wicca site. I decided to ascertain for myself just what all the fuss was about. At first it seemed kooky; people were trying to resurrect witchcraft and ancient nature worship? Surely this was the work of people with too much free time and too many acid trips.

The more I read, however, the more I became enthralled. I always loved noting the beauty of nature around me since my earliest years. The sun, moon and stars were ever-constant companions in my life in a way God had not been. What better deity could one have then Mother Earth herself, with nature and all the creatures that dwell within as her universal church? Here, finally, was a religion I could appreciate. Nature is something I need no external inspiration in revering; it comes naturally. Neopaganism, unlike most religions, embraces modern existence with all its recent discoveries in science, psychology, and social ethics. When I discovered this, I could safely say that I had found the worldview I had been seeking. I had come home.

Whatever happened to the man tapping me at my shoulder? That was the most startling discovery of all. I had been looking for some external force I thought had been hiding from me, which I would meet only after some arduous journey. Instead I have discovered the Divine is all around me, it is inside of me. It encompasses all of creation. It was always there right in front of me, trying to say hello. I was prepared to take the journey of a thousand miles to meet my maker; now I am learning to swim in an endless ocean of creation.

Does Neopaganism satiate all my cravings for Understanding and happiness? Does it provide me with all the answers to the questions I have been asking for years? No, it does not. However, what Neopaganism does offer me is a light to guide my way as I continue to progress on my spiritual journey. It is one huge leap in the right direction. Neopaganism may not be the end of my quest for the Divine, but it is, at long last, a worthy beginning.

Book: Occult Philosophy And Magick by Henry Cornelius Agrippa

How Magicians Collect vertues from the three-fold World, is declared in these Three Books. Seeing there is a three-fold World, Elementary, Celestiall, and Intellectual, and every inferior is governed by its superior, and receiveth the influence of the vertues thereof, so that the very original, and chief Worker of all doth by Angels, the Heavens, Stars, Elements, Animals, Plants, Metals, and Stones convey from himself the vertues of his Omnipotency upon us, for whose service he made, and created all these things: Wise men conceive it no way irrationall that it should be possible for us to ascend by the same degrees through each World, to the same very originall World it self, the Maker of all things, and first Cause, from whence all things are, and proceed; and also to enjoy not only these vertues, which are already in the more excellent kind of things, but also besides these, to draw new vertues from above.

Hence it is that they seek after the vertues of the Elementary world, through the help of Physick [=medicine], and Naturall Philosophy in the various mixtions of Naturall things, then of the Celestiall world in the Rayes, and influences thereof, according to the rules of Astrologers, and the doctrines of Mathematicians, joyning the Celestiall vertues to the former: Moreover, they ratifie and confirm all these with the powers of divers Intelligencies, through the sacred Ceremonies of Religions. The order and process of all these I shall endeavor to deliver in these three Books: Whereof the forst contains naturall Magick, the second Celestiall, and the third Ceremoniall. But I know not whether it be an unpardonable presumption in me, that I, a man of so little judgement and learning, should in my very youth so confidently set upon a business so difficult, so hard, and intricate as this is. Wherefore, whatsoever things have here already, and shall afterward be said by me, I would not have any one assent to them, nor shall I my self, any further then they shall be approved of by the Universall Church, and the Congregation of the Faithfull.

Candle Spell To Obtain Employment Cover CANDLE SPELL TO OBTAIN EMPLOYMENT

The altar should be set up as usual, with corresponding color candles and
drapery appropriate to your purpose. In addition to the two usual altar candles,
you'll need one candle (color to match purpose) anointed with money oil. It's
also helpful to burn Incense According to your purpose.

Cast your circle in whichever fashion you choose, then with Dove's Blood ink,
write your desire on a piece of blank parchment paper. Take a sharp instrument
of some kind and with it carve what you want three times simply on the candle.
Then place the parchment with your desire under the anointed, carved candle.

When you feel the time is right, say:

"Upon this candle I will write
What I receive of thee tonight
Grant what I wish you to do
I dedicate this rite to you
I trust that you will grand this boon
O lovely Goddess of the Moon
I call earth to bond my spell
Air speed its travel well
Fire give it spirit from above
Water quench my spell with love
So mote it be!"

Bind your spell, ground, and open your circle. This spell is best performed at
full moon when boons are granted. It is a pretty basic spell, but I've found
that they are the best in some cases.

Some Powerful Binding Spells

Posted by Mystery at 4:34 AM
Some Powerful Binding Spells Cover
Binding Spell I

You can use a white candle and thread and charge your candle with protection (using protection oil),
Or you can use a black candle and black thread, charging the candle with binding negative forces (using all-purpose oil).

THE SPELL
Take your candle, anoint and charge it. Light the candle and incense, we used Frankincense and Myrrh. Write on the twig all the negative things that you wish to bind in your life. Take your thread and wind it around the twig while chanting:

" Wound and bound, Wound and bound,
So the words of will resound,
Holding, binding, clasping firm,
This evil shall not return!"

When the twig is full, or you feel the power at it's peak say

"SO MOTE IT BE!

When you are finished, place the twig into a wooden box, or bury it in the earth, or burn it. Since it has no person's name, you will not need to undo the spell...

Binding Spell II

Required ingredients:

- Black figure candle
- Pieces of cord
- A valid motive

By Air and Earth,
By Water and Fire,
So, Be ye bound, as I desire.

By Three and Nine,
Your power I bind,
By Moon and Sun,
My Will be done.

Sky and Sea,
Keep Harm from me,
Cord go round,
Power be bound.

Light revealed,
NOW BE SEALED

SO MOTE IT BE!

Binding Spell III

Materials needed:

- symbol of the person you wish to bind
- black ribbon for burning:
- matches or lighter
- cauldron or heat proof bowl
- bowl of water yourself

Cast your circle and your invocations, then take the symbol of the person you wish to bind, and wrap a black ribbon around I (do not overlap ribbon if you plan to rip instead of burn). Burn it in your cauldron or rip it. While doing so, chant these words three times:

"(name of person), by the Lady and the Lord, you are binded, and incapable of doing harm against (anyone or anything you choose)."

After said three times, say,

"so mote it be."

Then place the ashes or the ripped quantity in the bowl of water for the Person to be cleansed.

Binding someone dangerous:

Best performed on Saturday (Saturn's Day),
To bind a criminal / one who intends to do harm,
To bring someone to justice

Collect your materials, including a poppet you made to represent the person in question Cast a circle.
Light a black candle and burn myrrh incense.
Sprinkle the poppet with salt water, saying

Blessed be, thou creature made of art.
By art made, by art changed.
Thou art not clothe (or wax, whatever)
But flesh and blood
I name thee ___________ (person being bound)
Thou art s/he, between the worlds, in all the worlds,
So mote it be

Hold the poppet and imagine it enmeshed in silver net, binding the person in question. Tie the poppet up firmly with red ribbon, binding all parts of it that could possibly do harm.
Charge it, saying,

By air and earth,
By water and fire,
So be you bound,
As I desire.
By three and nine,
Your power I bind.
By moon and sun,
My will be done.
Sky and sea
Keep harm from me.
Cord go round,
Power be bound,
Light revealed,
Now be sealed.

Release the powers and open the circle. Bury the poppet at the time of the waning moon, far from your home, under a heavy rock. Go home and have some juice and do grounding. And clearing meditation.

A charm to bind an enemy:

Gather cobwebs from your house. Place them all a tangle upon a black cloth. Procure then a fly, recently dead, and set it down upon the mass of webs. These words should then be written down on paper:

"North, South, East, West
Spider's web shall bind him best
East, West, North, South
Hold his limbs and stop his mouth
Seal his eyes and choke his breath
Wrap him round with ropes of death."

Fold the paper 4 times and wrap it, the fly and webs in the black cloth, forming a small bag. This should then be bound up with the end of a long cord and suspended from a hook in a dark corner of the home. Do not disturb it, but let it hang until it is thickly covered in dust. Then take down and bury it in the earth to work its influence in perpetual secrecy.

Calling The Elements In Ritual

Posted by Mystery at 11:04 AM Labels: book of shadows, love spell, magic books download, magic spells, white magic, witch spells, witchcraft, witchcraft books, witchcraft magick
Calling The Elements In Ritual Cover One of the first things that many people learn when working magick, in the Wiccan sense, is circle casting. It is one of the most fundamental aspects of Wiccan ritual and one that everyone who is going to work magick should know inside and out. But it’s not at all uncommon for beginners, especially those that are self-taught through books or by searching the Internet, to find a circle casting method that they find appealing and just reciting it, following the motions recommended, but without much thought, research or experimentation. While the argument here can be made that, like to anything within the realm of magick, pure intention and belief can carry you a long way, there is more to calling the elements into a ritual space than just believing they are there.

First, let’s address one of the things that many people are confused about when they first start to really explore and, quite honestly think about what they are doing and saying; the Watchtowers. Many people begin working with the a circle casting using the “I call the Watchtower of the North” method but not knowing what the Watchtowers are (and I think that after our discussion about the power of words in ritual and magick from the other day should make it no surprise about how I personally feel about this issue).

The Watchtowers serve as guardians in ritual. The use of Watchtowers is not new and is something that is believed to be one of the many things Gardner “borrowed” from the Golden Dawn while creating his ritual methods, but the Watchtowers go back farther than the Golden Dawn as well. The Watchtowers were used by John Dee and Edward Kelly during the 16th century in the Enochian magickal system which they were working to develop from visions and encounters with angelic beings, a system that would later be solidified by Samuel Liddell MacGregor Mathers (S.L. MacGregor Mathers). The system that Dee and Kelly worked with was an elaborate one that utilized The Angelic Table, an alphabet grid that broke down into subdivision including the four elements and four directions. Through this grid and it’s system of use the names of specific angels to be placed at the four directions were reveled.

While Dee and Kelly used angels to call at the four quarter/directions for aid and protection Mathers, through his work with the Golden Dawn, would rework and develop the Watchtowers to replace the angels used in the Enochian system, associating each one with a direction and an element. This is the same system commonly used in Wicca now (North/Earth, East/Air, South/Fire, West/Water). The colors that we associate with these quarters in our rituals also originate from work that was done with the Golden Dawn system. The colors were supposed to be able to draw energy from the atmosphere around them so colored tablets known as “flashing tablets” would be placed on the walls in the corresponding direction in the temple during rituals. The colors are similar to what we often work with today with Earth being the only exception (Earth/black, Air/yellow, Fire/red, Water/blue).

Today some see the Watchtowers as being actual astral towers, sort of like lighthouses which radiate with the colors and essences of that quarters element, there to guard the ritual space and to regulate the actual elemental energy called in. The Watchtowers do not replace any other elemental being that would be called in. Some people have the mistaken notion that if you call the Watchtowers you can’t call on other astral beings like angels, dragons or faeries to lend energy to the circle in their elemental forms. This is not the case and the Watchtowers should be seen more as guards than your actual, working elemental aid.

So that’s the Watchtowers. What about the rest of what goes into calling the elements into a ritual circle?

There are essentially four parts to working with calling the elements in a formal sense into ritual:

1. Evocation
2. Visualization
3. Tools
4. Gestures

Evocation
Evocation means to call forward (where as invocation means to call within, as in the act of the High Priestess invoking the Goddess within herself during an Esbat ritual; you can keep them straight in your mind my thinking of invoke as to call INside). When we evoke a spirit we are calling on it, asking it to come forth and be present in our space. We call the evocations of the elements in ritual quarter calls because we are usually calling on them at one of the four directions. There are a few methods of evoking the elements but all start with calling on the element that you are facing. So while facing the North, for example, you’re going to call on the element of Earth. You can either call on the element and then the elemental guide or guardian you want to work with or you can call on the Watchtower, then the element, then any elemental spirits. So, for example:

* In the Northen quarter I call upon the element of Earth, and I call forth the power and aid of the elemental gnomes. Hail and Welcome!
* I call upon the Watchtower in the North to guard this rite. I call upon the element of Earth and I call forth the aid of the elemental gnomes. Hail and Welcome!

Visualization
Visualization when calling the elements is an important part of building the energy with what you are doing. By seeing the elements and their guides, by seeing the Watchtowers in the distance guarding your space, you are adding to the energy that is going to protect and guide your work. One of the easiest ways to work with this is to visualize the color that you associate with that element. Assuming that we’re working with our modern Wiccan colors of green, yellow, red and blue, you can visualize a mist of that color coming forth from the distance when you speak your invocation. Visualize the mist then joining with the energy if your cast circle but remaining concentrated in it’s specific quarter. Others might wish to visualize a specific elemental being, like a gnome in the North, or a spirit animal like a dolphin in the West, coming forth and appearing just at the edge of the circle. Yet others may wish to visualize specific symbols such as the Hindu Tattvas, elemental triangles, or otheralchemical symbols. The idea is that while you are speaking your evocation you are visualizing your element, in whatever form you can, coming forward and being present in your space.

Tools
Each element has some sort of physical representation associated with it. Some will use specific ritual tools that are attributed to each element as part of their evocations. For example you might hold up a chalice of liquid to salute the Western element as it is being called, or you may which to hold up your athame in salute to the spirits of the South while calling them forward. Others use the simple act of lighting a specific, corresponding candle when making their evocation, either on the altar or in the actual quarter. You can also do things like sprinkling water around the circle while calling on the element of Water or carrying a censer or smoldering incense around the circle while evoking the element of air. The use of tools in elemental evocation is an example of the Hermetic Principle of Correspondence at work in a ritual setting.

Gesture
Gesture is simply the use of some form of intentioned movement during your evocation. This can be drawing the elemental pentagrams, or just invoking or banishing pentagrams, while working your evocations. Some may use hand gestures such as cupping your hands as though to hold water while calling on the Western element, or standing with your hands over your head with your fingers spread apart as though wind were to pass through them while calling on the East. Using a combination of all of these isn’t uncommon. Some may begin their evocation by drawing an elemental pentagram and then use a hand gesture while speaking the evocation.

Putting it all Together
Together these ritual acts, with your intention, become the keys to unlocking the gateways to the elemental realms. Putting them together and creating your complete quarter call might take some practice. What order do you want to do things in? What makes the most sense for you?

The way that I work with them, and the way that I might recommend, is like this:

* Draw elemental pentagram (invoking during the calling, banishing during the dismissal)
* Use the chosen hand gesture for that element
* Speak evocation while visualizing the elemental color or elemental being
* Light elemental candle
* Bow to the quarter in reverence

Keeping yourself in the correct mindset, visualizing and feeling the element while evoking it and doing your gestures and such, is the hardest part to master, but it also the most important part to master. Words and gestures without intention and energy behind them mean nothing, so taking the time to practice this while really focusing your energy and thoughts so to remain in alignment with the element you are calling on.

A Note About Releasing
The act of releasing the elements is a very important one. As part of the closing of your circle always release your elements, going widdershins (counterclockwise) from how you called them in. So if you ended with West when you called them in you’ll start with West to release them.

I have seen many people verbally say, while releasing the elements, “Stay if you will, go if you must”, the same as they would to a Deity or other Spirit. Working with the elements and elementals is not the same as working with the Gods. When we offer to the Gods for them to remain with us once the ritual is complete and the circle is released, we see this as an act of reverence. However the Gods are of a higher intelligence and higher vibration than the elements. The elements are more of a raw energy that need direction. By releasing the energy completely and closing the gateways that you have opened when calling the elements in you will retain the balance of energy that you are used to. I have heard people say they don’t feel it’s “polite” to command the elements, but as an old friend of mine once said to someone while having this very discussion “If you don’t have the ***** to command something you have called into your ritual space, then you shouldn’t be calling it in the first place. You’re the Witch; you’re the one in charge.” Elements when left to just fill a space uncontrolled can cause havoc in your space (so if you start to find things catch fire a lot or your pipes start bursting, it could be the reaction of overactive and out of balance elemental energy in your space).
