Silver is the first Wiccan author whom I have discovered so far, who has had the focus to dedicate her time and energies writing this "Silver's Spells For..." series. I declare that she is doing quite a good job!

Silver Ravenwolf's Silver's Spells for Protection is just the right size. By that I mean that the format of this book makes it an ideal "take along" for purse, backpack, or pocket. This book covers how to handle stalkers, abusers, and other nasties with practical information as well as magickal techniques. It also discusses some of the other irritants in life-like protecting yourself from your mother-in-law's caustic tongue and how to avoid that guy who's out to take your job.

As for the one or two folks who declared that they needed to know Wicca or how to manipulate magickal energies before they used her books, well, you are entitled to your opinion. Considering that EVERY person on this planet has the potential for magick, I dare say that you all are trying to put magick in a box! Naturally Silver remembered to put the usual cautions and admonitions about the laws of magick in the first chapters of her book...so relax, OK?

Of course, unless the information in this book was valuable, there'd be no reason to take it along at all. But since it comes to spells, methods, and technologies for spiritual protection and prevention, this book has everything you need. That's why I started off by saying this is the right size to carry along with you: You're going to want to take it everywhere!

There is a self-blessing ritual and spells to protect your vehicle. There are spells to protect those in your home and ones to uncross yourself when confronted with negativity and setbacks. You'll find techniques to get people to stop lying about you, and others to aid you in court.

In fact, by Understanding what underlies the techniques given in this book, you can come up with Protection Spells for any purpose. The appendices give you Correspondences and suggestions so you can easily convert the spells given in this book to exactly work with your needs.

What do you do when you discover that your best friend at work sabotaged your promotion? Or if a neighbor suddenly decides that you don't belong in his town? What if a group of teens sets out to make your life a living hell? Silver's Spells for Protection contains tips for dealing with all these situations, and more.

One of the best parts of this book is a basic introduction to magick. Even if you're an old hand at spells and rituals, this section will refresh your memory and give information on ideas you didn't know or might have forgotten. How long should a ritual or spell last? Why didn't my magick work? When should I do this ritual? If magic for evil purposes works, why shouldn't I do it? All of these questions are clearly answered.

This book makes an excellent gift — to a friend or to yourself. Protection from the problems of life and from negative energies is needed by all. You can find answers here.

Anyway, don't let the naysayers put you off-- it is an excellent series, and the wide array of spells, their size and power being in direct proportion to the seriousness of the problems/people/situations at hand, are just what I needed! I live in a big city where there is LOTS of noise, and I used her suggestions for stress. Also, my ridiculous relatives have been harrassing me psychically to contact them (which in and of itself is not magickally ethical), and the "Simple Folk Spells for Little Troubles" worked wonderfully. All of her spells are, as Wiccan ethics go, WITH HARM TO NONE. Blessed Be!

We have very little information at all about Viking medical practices. It is thought that women were probably the primary medical practicioners (Foote and Wilson, The Viking Achievement, p. 93). Since women in general are so much in the background in most sagas, you don't see them operating in this role often, and even male physicians don't get much description when they appear. In particular, after Christianity began to appear, men in all European contexts tend to hold the official titles associated with medical roles, although women remained very active as the first line of everyday healthcare in their homes (Ellis-Davidson, Roles of the Northern Goddess, p. 161).

Love Spells For The One You Want

Spells of Love and Passion:

love spells can be used to bring you the one that you've wanted for many months
or perhaps years. When performing any love spell, we suggest that you ritually
prepare yourself with a hot bath with an herbal additive of one of the
suggested herbs. When performing spells, skyclad works best under loose silk
robes. Always use virgin products and try to make as much as possible yourself.

Spell of Desire

To make a man desire you sexually, write his full name with yours upon a crimson
(deep red) phallus-shaped candle when the waxing moon enters the sign of
Scorpio. Anoint the candle with musk oil, light it and repeat the following
magickal incantation three times:

CRIMSON CANDLE -BRIGHT WITH FIRE
BEWITCH (mans full name) WITH DESIRE!

Close your eyes and visualize the man of your desires making love to you.
Continue the erotic Visualization until the candle completely burns itself out.

To Make a Lover Come To You:

Stick 2 silver pins through the middle of a red candle at midnight. Concentrate
on your lover and repeatedly chant his or her name out loud. When the candle
burns down to the pins, your lover will arrive.

No Lover In Mind??:

At sunset on a Friday (Venus ruled), when the moon is in a waxing phase, cast
any three of the following herbs into a blazing hearth fire (or bonfire, if
outdoors): basil, catnip, coriander, ginger, jasmine, powdered juniper berries,
lavender, lovage, rosemary, rose petals, violets, or yarrow. As the herbs burn,
recite the following incantation:

MY TRUE LOVE'S FACE I'VE YET TO SEE.
I KNOW NOT WHAT HIS (HER) NAME MAY BE
BUT SOON HIS (HER) HEART WILL BEAT FOR ME.
COME MY UNKNOWN LOVE,
COME TO ME,
AS I WILL IT,
SO SHALL IT BE!

To Restore a Lovers Affections:

Mix a pinch of your powdered fingernail clippings with red wine and then serve
it to your unsuspecting lover on a night when the moon is in a waxing phase.

Tie A Knot For Love:

Take 3 cords or strings of various, pleasing pastel colors, perhaps pink, red,
and green- and braid them very tightly together. Firmly tie a knot near one end
of the braid, thinking of your needs of love. Next, tie another knot, and
another, until you have tied seven knots. Wear or carry the cord with you until
you find your true love. After that, keep the cord in a safe place, or give it
to one of the elements, burn and scatter the ashes in the ocean or a stream.

The Spell of Nine:

To make any person desire you, perform this spell at nine o' clock on a night
when the moon is in Taurus. Write the full name of the man or woman you love,
along with yours, nine times on a tall pink candle. Anoint the candle with a
fragrant mixture of rose water and honey, light it and let it burn for nine
minutes, every night at nine o'clock for nine nights in a row. On the ninth
night, after the candle has been extinguished, wrap it tightly in a piece of
pink silk. Tie it securely with a pink ribbon and bury it in a churchyard. (It
is important that no one sees you when your bury your candle, or else the spell
will be totally ineffective.)

Anger Relavation Spells

What are some anger relevation spells?

Symbolic baneful actions are also cathartic actions. They drain and clear
our poisonous feelings and allow our own emotional healing to begin. If we
deny ourselves this outlet, what happens to the grief and pain and rage?

I am part of the All. "An it harm none" is about me too. Release of my
feelings is my right.

At first it seems like an insoluble paradox. But the same Understanding of
magic that forbids Projection of our bad feelings can open a safe channel
for those feelings. Here's one possible form:

Preparation:
1/ Understanding
Think about the Alcoholics Anonymous prayer "Grant me the serenity to
accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference." People of any religion can
recognize the wisdom in these words. This ritual is intended to ease
emotional pressure. I believe that is a step towards granting all three of
those things to ourselves. If your hurt is ongoing, take steps to stop
it...What good this Circle does you will be temporary at best if you are
not acting on both the magical and material planes... Prevention and
healing are human tasks; to do them is to change the things we can change.
Justice - the evening of karmic balances - is the business of the Gods, and
may take place across a span of many lifetimes. Karmic balance is not a
thing we can change.

2/ Set Up
* You have some decisions to make. 1: Whether you will work alone or ask
one or more trusted friends to witness and facilitate your working. 2.
Nest, exactly what kind of symbolic action will release your feelings? Will
kicking a pillow suffice, or do you need to make a poppet, or will
screaming work? If you want to work with a physical symbol, prepare it in
advance. Do not use anything you will want to keep after the rite or ever
use again. 3: Figure out whether you can cast a Circle to include your
bathroom, or leave a cast Circle for a period of time. If possible, have a
warm scented tub waiting for you. If not, a basin of warm scented water and
a washcloth within easy reach just outside your Circle will suffice. Also,
a ritual meal, including something green and growing, and something sweet,
should be prepared and waiting just outside the Circle.

3/ Procedure
Waning moon is a good time, and the Dark of the Moon is even better. Cast
the Circle and invoke the Watchers in your usual manner. Call on the Crone,
on She who weeds and prunes and disposes of the obstructive and
unnecessary.

Just inside the Circle, like a membrane in an eggshell, cast a grounding
shield. One possible image for this shield would be a black absorptive
chain link fence, supported at regular intervals by fence posts that are
lightning rods. Whatever happens within this space will be grounded.

Make clear to yourself what you wish to drain. Say it aloud, even if you
are alone. Recall what happened to you in detail and let the feelings grow
strong.

Now let go of your feelings. Do whatever will help you to release what is
in you. Beat on a pillow or rip up a doll. Scream till you cry. Don't stop
till you are emptied. Then fling the thing you used as a symbol out of the
Circle.

When you are sure you are all done, all drained, contract the shield into a
tight ball in the center of the Circle. As it contracts, it will gather the
negative energy from the Circle. Ground it. Affirm that you are sending
this energy to the fire at the heart of the Earth to be purified in that
blast furnace and cycled to wherever strong energy is needed. Know that
what you now let go is gone. Affirm this vocally.

Wash or bathe in ritual manner, feeling the last traces of your bad
feelings dissolve away. If others are present, allow them to wash and serve
you.

Rest for a few minutes. Feel the peace of emptiness.

Then invoke the Maiden's energy for new beginnings. Have the ritual feast,
and indulge your senses. Gentle and joyful music would be effective, and
you may wish to switch to a sweeter smelling incense. This is a time to
dream dreams and plan plans. You have removed an energy drain from your
life, and you can.......?

Thank and dismiss whatever Beings you have called on, throughout the whole
ritual. Close your Circle as usual. Do not do any other kinds of working or
worship within this particular Circle.

Follow Through:

The final part of any effective magical working is "acting in accordance"
on the material plane. By doing this we give the magic a channel through
which to manifest. For this working, there are three forms of follow
through, and all are important.

1/ Remember that painful feelings are partly habitual. Stop feeding the
habit. Don't talk about the pain with anybody until at least the second
full moon after the working. This gives the habit the chance to fade out.
Eliminate the topic from your internal dialogue as well. Thinking about
action to change Your Life is perfectly ok; the problem is reiteration
about the old feelings of frustration and helplessness that impede change.

2/ If the hurtful situation is current and ongoing, continue with any steps
you were taking to change the things you can change. In fact, you will
probably find you have more energy than you did before to devote to your
projects.

3/ Be sure to use some of your newly freed emotional energy to reward
yourself. Take time for friendship, love, and pleasure. The object of the
exercise is to clear space for the enjoyment of life, so start right now.

to bless this work and charge it well,
to Complete the spell now far or near.
Mystic Moon and Brilliant Sun,
send your power here this way,
Gracious Lady, Mighty Lord,
bless this charge that I lay.
Powers that are, powers that be,
gather round this spell I cast,
empower my Working three times three,
send it forth to see it last!
So Shall it Be!
